A Storied History of Cooking

Welcome to The Hungry Author, where my passion for cooking meets the magic of classic literature!

My blog is a fusion of my years in the trenches as a line cook and some of my favourite storytellers and their characters. Each recipe is attributed to a character from classic literature with their narrative leading into one of my recipes.

Imagine the unhinged Montresor from The Cask of Amontillado detailing his thoughts on Pernod Scallops as he plans what to eat after finishing entombing Fortunato, or the brooding Mr. Darcy revealing his secret love of a perfect cheesecake with strawberry sauce and caramel icing. At The Hungry Author, I bring these literary figures to life in the recipe preambles, offering a unique and engaging twist to recipe blogs.

Each dish on my blog is accompanied by a narrative, written from the perspective of characters from my favourite authors… and literally any others I can think of that are in the public domain. Whether it's a campfire cooked pork belly by Jim Hawkins while on the beach of Treasure Island, a steak that doesn’t age but the picture of it does, a 9 layer dip that would give Dante flashbacks or a Gumbo that Tom Sawyer would trick you into making, my recipes are crafted to transport you to the heart of my favorite stories.

My goal is to celebrate the intersection of my two passions, cooking and storytelling, making every meal an enchanting escape into the world of classic novels. So relish old adventures while we make relish, devour some food the way you devoured books, escape into flavour and escape into stories.

Welcome to The Hungry Author and savour these stories one bite at a time.
